DIY Woven Basket

Hello everybody!

Today I’m showing you how to make this cute basket.

It’s so cute and it’s great to store small objects on your desk.

The only materials you need are:

  • Old magazines
  • Cellotape
  • Scissors

Step 1: Collecting the pages

The first step is to take some pages from your magazine.

I decided to use bright coloured pages but you could also choose a pastel or black and white theme, whatever you want.

Step 2: Cutting the pages

Cut each page into fout equal strips.

Step 3: Folding the strips

Fold each strip in four so they become smaller, thicker strips. This is to make sure the basket becomes strong.

Make a few of these strips before you go on to the next step.

Step 4: Weaving the base

Start with laying two strips in a cross-shape snd secure them with some cellotape

Then add a vertical and a horizontal strip:

Keep adding more strips, securing them with cellotape when needed.

Keep doing this until you have a base the size you want. I decided to make my base 9 by 9 strips, but you can make it bigger or smaller if you want.

Make sure you only use cellotape on one side, this will be at the bottom so you won’t see it. This is how the side without cellotape will look:

Step 5: Weaving the sides

This is the hardest part. To start, create a long strip by sticking 2 (or 3 if you make a large basket) strips to each other, it should be long enough to go around the base.

Then, weave the long strips through one of the sides like this:

Then bend the strip and continue weaving through the second side.

Continue this all around the basket, make sure to secure it with some cellotape in all the corners!

Cut off the excess of the strip and stick the end to the beginning:

Then add another layer by weaving it through all the strips again, but alternatr to the last strip.

Add a third layer and it will look like this:

Step 5: Finishing off

To finish of cut all the stips untill they stick about 1-1,5 centimeters above the basket

Now, fold them all around the edge of the basket and stick each of them to the basket with a small piece of cellotape.

And that’s it! It’s ready to be used now!

The bright magazine pages just turn it into a colourfull desk decoration that is really convenient too and you only need a few newspapers!

I’m certainly planning on making a few more of these ๐Ÿ˜Š
