Hello everyone!
I’m really excited! August has started so from now on I’ll be posting twice a week and this is my very first Wednesday post!
Today I’m showing you my art journal. I love art journaling and I’m showing you some of the pages I made.
Remember this book? I made it a while ago in a this post: How to do simple bookbinding
Since then I’ve been using it as an art journal and it’s been great. It is already so thick and I’m only on 1/4. I even had to use a string to keep it closed!
I’m going to show you a few of the pages in my journal. I mostly use quotes as inspiration and use images to illustrate them, but sometimes I also try other things. Here are a few examples:
Page 1:
I really like this page because I love the quote and I think the piano part turned out really good. I made it by painting on black paper with white paint. It was quite hard to write the words on the left with the paint and they came out a bit crooked but I found I actually liked the rough-ish look it gave so I kept it. I just printed out the picture of the piano and stuck it onto the paint so it looked like it was in some sort of spotlight.
Page 2:
You can’t read it really well in the picture but the quote says: “Our greatest glory is not in never failing but in rising every time we fall”. I think it’s a great quote because it’s okay to make mistakes as long as you learn from them. I thought a phoenix fit perfectly with the quote so I drew one on the right (I did use a reference picture). I painted the red background with some acrylic paint.
Page 3:
I don’t only use quotes! This was a watercolour painting where I just coloured a bit randomly with all kinds of colours. It was a good way to let out my creativity and I actually think the colours look quite cool.
Page 4:
I’m quite proud of this page. I portrayed the quote by painting a small piece of gauze and hanging it in front of a page of an old book (don’t worry, it wasn’t a real book, just some sort of advertisement thing). I added the paperclip to keep the gauze in place. I just think it looks really cool and I like the look of the painted gauze.
Page 5:
This is a different way to art journal. On the computer I made this little collage of a few positive pictures and I printed that and stuck it in the book. It’s a whole different way but it’s also a lot of fun and it’s pretty easy to do. i think it turned out good and I think it’s a pretty cute pastel collage. *Disclaimer: the images I used are not mine*
Page 6,7,8:
These are three pages that belong together. The lyrics are from Believer by Imagine Dragons. It’s a song I really love and I tried to portray the lyrics of the verses.
For the first page I stuck pieces from an plastic bag with newspaper-print on the journal. Then I took a second paper and cut out the silhouette of a girl and I stuck it on top. That way you could see the newspaper through the silhouette. It’s a literal portray of the ‘words inside my head’ and I quite like it.
For the second page I just used a pretty image that I cut out a newspaper and I stuck the lyrics on top. It was really easy to do but I think it looks pretty nice.
The last page is my favourite. For this I used the humming bird stamp I made myself. You can find the tutorial on how to make your own stamps in this post: DIY Foam Stamps. I just dipped the stamp into the ink and stamped the whole left side with different gradients of blue. I think it gives such a cool effect and it’s really easy to do. For the right side I stamped onto the paper and then stuck another piece with the silhouette of a dove cut out on top of it. I think this looks really cool because it gives a bit of depth to the page. What do you think?
That was it for today! I hope you liked this post. Which page was your favourite? Do you want a part 2? Let me know in the comments below.
