Make a pompon notebook with materials you probably already have at home!

Hello everybody😊

I might be a bit obsessed with pompons lately…😳 But just look at how cute they are! 😍

I love them so much that this week I decided to make this little pompon notebook. I think it is adorable and you can make it with normal wool.

What you’ll need to make it:

  • 6 sheets of A4 paper
  • Thin cardboard
  • Wool in different colours of your choice
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Needle and thread
  • Coloured/ scrapbook paper

Step 1: Cutting the paper

The first step is to take your 6 sheets of A4 paper and cut them all into 4 pieces.

Step 2: Making the groups

Then, fold all the smaller sheets double and divide them into 4 groups with 6 sheets each.

Step 3: Marking the spots for the holes

Mark spots for the holes on your paper with some dots. They should be 1,5 cm from the edge of the paper and 1 cm apart.

Step 4: The binding

Bind the groups into a book. I have already explained how to do this in an earlier post, so for a detailed tutorial on how to bind them see my post How to do simple bookbinding.

This is how it’ll look when you’re finished:

Step 5: Cutting the cardboard

Cut two pieces of thin cardboard the size of your pages. These will become the front- and back cover of you book.

Step 6: Making the pompons

This step is actually quite easy. Take some wool (I for example used wool scraps I had left from the DIY Pompon stool I made a few weeks ago).

Then, you proceed to pull the wool strands apart so they become thin and fluffy.

Then, you take a few of those strands and roll them into tiny balls with your fingers. To make it easier you can use a little bit of water. Try to make all the pompons about the same size.

Depending on how big you make them you’ll have to make 50-80. That seems like a lot,but it didn’t take a lot of time.

Step 7: Sticking the pompons to the front cover

Working from the inside to the outside, stick your pompons to one of the cardboard pieces, making sure not to leave any gaps between them.

The other cardboard piece you can cover with some coloured or scrapbook paper. I chose to just cover it with some pink paper.

Step 8: Sticking the covers to the book

Using glue, stick the cardboard pieces to the front and last page of your book.

(Tip: Make sure to protect the other pages from the glue with some old newspaper!)

Stick them like this to the book like this:

And that’s it!

This is how the inside will look:

I think it’s just a really cute way to make a small notebook. Of course, you could also make a bigger version by using a quarter or half of an A4 as pages, but you’ll have to make a lot of pompons.

The best thing about this technique is that you don’t have to buy any pompons (they can be quite expensive sometimes), but you can just use wool which you probably already have at home.

I hope you liked this tutorial. I you did, please like, comment and/or share. It really means a lot to me. ☺️ And follow me for a new DIY every Sunday!

DIY Pompon stool

Hey guys,

First things first: I’m so sorry I didn’t post anything last week…😔 there’s just a lot going on in my life at the moment, and I really couldn’t find the time to make a post.

But this week I could, so I’m showing how to make this very cute DIY pompon chair for just a few dollars. Of course, you don’t have to make  a stool, you can use this on any surface you want, for example a table, a mat, maybe even a shelf? There are endless possibility’s.

I decided to make this as I didn’t really like the look of the plain white stool in my room. I wanted to make something soft that also looked cool, so I decided to use pompons.

What you’ll need:6374e09504036eb155e15dfdd4c1891c

  • Wool in a few different colours
  • A piece of foam the size of your surface
  • Scissors
  • A fork
  • Needle and thread

Optionally:

  • Fabric to cover the foam

Part 1: Making the Pompons

For this step, I tried out a few different techniques, but I found that this one was the easiest. The only thing you need is a fork, which you probably have at home (I hope).

Step 1: Take your wool and tie it to the fork

Step 2: wrap the wool around the fork a lot of times.

Step 3: Make a vertical knot between the middel spikes of the fork

Step 4: take the wool of the fork and cut through all the loops like this

And there you have your pompon:

How often you should wrap the wool around the fork depends on the wool you have. For my pink wool of medium thickness I wrapped it around +/- 40 times. My white wool was thinner, so there I had to wrap about 60 times. My purple wool was thick, so 30 wraps was enough there.

Then, repeat this step lots of times. LOTS of times. To fill up my surface I had to make 50 pompons and it ook me 3 minutes per pompon, so that took a while…

Step 2: making the surface.

My stool had holes in it, so I marked the places of those holes on the foam and made a hole there with my scissors.

Then, I took some wool and pulled it trough the wool. This is so that I could tie the foam to the stool at the end.

Pull the wool through like this

I decided to cover my foam with white fabric from an old T-shirt, so I traced my foam on the fabric, and cut out a few centimeters around it.

Then I laid the foam on top of it.

Sewing the fabric to the foam went surprisingly easy. With a sharp needle you can easily go through the foam.

When I had gone all around this it how it looked:

Step 3: Sewing the pompoms to the foam.

This step took a lot of time. I had to sew every single pompom to the fabric. I didn’t want to use glue as I don’t have any fabric glue and with normal glue it would probably just have become a sticky mess… but if you have good fabric glue I would definitely recommend using that.

And that was it!

That was how I turned this…

into this:

5ca25419b1fe623a1aaba6dc6cdfd425

And the best thing is that you can easily undo the knot at the bottom and remove it if you want to.

I think it turned out really cool, pompons are just so cute and soft..😊
