DIY Cute Mini Clay Cacti

Hey guys, I’m back with a new tutorial. I’ve been seeing these little cacti everywhere and I thought they were soo cute so I decided to make a few myself.

What you’ll need:

  • Clay, (I used modelling clay but you can also use polymer or air dry clay)
  • Paint
  • Glue

I made 3 different cacti, the classical saguaro cactus, one thats’s more like a barrel cactus and the last one isn’t technically a cactus, but a succulent.

Cactus number 1:

Step 1: Roll a ball from your clay

Step 2: Turn it into a cilinder and cut of the bottom part so the bottom is flat

Step 3: Make a little arm and stick it to the cilinder

Cactus number 2:

Step 1: Make a ball again but this time make one side narrow

Step 2: use a pencil to make vertical lines in the cactus

Cactus number 3:

Step 1: For this one, you first have to make a lot of leaf-shaped things. 5 big leaves, 6 medium and 5 small leaves. (Yes I know the picture only shows 3 small ones, that was a mistake. Oops)

Step 2: Place the big leaves like this:

Step 3: Place the medium ones on top of the big ones but alternating, and place the small ones on top of that.

Now, for the pots:

I made three different pots. For the first one I made a cylinder with one side thinner than the other one like this:

I rolled out a thin strip of clay, flattened it and wrapped it around the pot.

For the second pot I did the same but without flattening the strip.

For the third pot I made a ball,  pushed it flat and made a notch in it with my fingers

This is what you’ll have so far:

For the painting I decided to make each cactus a different shade of green and each pot a different color, one orange, one brown and one reddish:

Now, all that is left to do is stick the plants to the pots with some glue and you’re done.

I think they’re really cute and you could make a whole lot of them with different shades of green and different sizes of pots. I think that would look very cool. If you like, you could also give the cacti kawaii faces. That would be really cute too.

The third cactus is my favourite, I think it looks really cute and quite realistic.
